I believe that the last line in the story symbolizes the happiness the pearl is feeling and having. I think it symbolizes this because the pearl is back where it belongs and where it wants to be forever, the large, vast ocean. I think all the evil and greed Kino's family received from the pearl was the pearls way of saying that it didn't belong in their hands. Instead the pearl belonged where it came from, the ocean. The pearl is just evil and greed covered up by hope and opportunities. Even though the pearl brought the family a plentiful amount of evil, the family will walk away with a lesson that they will be able to learn from.
